Viktor Svedberg (born November 23, 1987 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with Barys Astana / Nur-Sultan in the Continental Hockey League since December 2018 . He is considered a defender who, due to his stature - with over two meters in height, Svedberg was one of the largest players in the NHL - excels in tackling strength and body play and is often given times in outnumbered situations.
Career
At the beginning of his career, Svedberg initially played in the youth teams of Rögle BK between 2007 and 2009 . He then moved to the youth department of Frölunda HC , where he received nine appearances for the first team in the Elitserien for the first time in the 2010/11 season . In the following two seasons, the defensive player was able to establish himself in the Frölunda team and played a total of 96 games.
In the summer of 2013, Svedberg decided for a commitment in North America and has signed an initial contract with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League , but received after four games a contract from the affiliated National Hockey League - Organization Chicago Blackhawks . In the 2013/14 season , the Swede ran again on the farm team in Rockford, but only completed 35 games due to several injuries. Also in the following year he had to take a break for a few weeks due to injury, but made 49 season games in the AHL. In August 2015, his contract was extended for another year and after good preparation for the season, Svedberg was an integral part of the Blackhawks' squad at the beginning of the 2015/16 season . Due to the failures of Duncan Keith and Michal Rozsíval , the defensive player received a large number of minutes and played in a defender pairing with the established Brent Seabrook . On October 16, he scored his first goal in the top division of North America in the game against the Washington Capitals . After healthy of the regular defenders Svedberg returned to the IceHogs and received no appearances in the NHL in the following two seasons.
After the 2017/18 season, his expiring contract in Chicago was not extended, so he was looking for a new employer from July 2018. In November 2018 he was signed by Linköpings HC , but moved to Barys Astana in the Continental Hockey League at the beginning of December .
