Ski service

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a ski service is called the treatment of the covering and edge of a ski. The purpose of the ski service is to take care of the skis and improve their handling. A ski service is usually carried out automatically in (ski) sports shops. With the appropriate tool, however, a ski service can also be carried out independently.

Service offers

In a sports shop, services are usually offered in different packages. These are often broken down as follows.

  • Waxing : waxing, polishing
  • Small base service : base sanding, edge sanding, waxing, polishing
  • Large base service : repairing damage to the base, sanding the base, sanding the edges, waxing, polishing

Service work

Base grinding

When sanding the base, the base of the ski is first completely ground using a grindstone to remove any unevenness. Then a structure is pressed into the surface, which is supposed to improve the sliding properties.

Edge grinding

The task of the edge grinding is to sharpen the edges of the ski in order to achieve a better edge grip. This is especially important on hard ski slopes, otherwise the edge cannot cut into the ice.

To grow

When waxing, a thin layer of wax is applied to the base. The task of the ski wax is to improve the sliding properties of the ski base. A distinction is made between hot wax, which is liquefied by heating and then applied to the skis, and cold wax, which is usually supplied in liquid form or as a spray. While cold wax only works on the upper layers of the base, hot wax is also absorbed into the deeper areas of the ski base and therefore lasts much longer.
