Albrecht von Bibra , also Albert or Alban († August 24, 1511 in Würzburg ) was Canon of Würzburg ( Provost 1502) and Bamberg . He was also provost in the Neumünster Collegiate Monastery .

Origin and family

Albrecht von Bibra comes from the Thuringian-Franconian noble family of the von Bibra . Albrecht came from the marriage of Georg von Bibra and Elisabeth von Modschiedler , his siblings were Johann and Kaspar.

The von Bibra family provided numerous canons in Bamberg and Würzburg. At the same time as Albrecht, the Bibra family provided Lorenz von Bibra, the Würzburg prince-bishop (1495–1519) and later Konrad III. by Bibra (1540-1544). Other bearers of the name in simultaneous spiritual services were Kilian von Bibra and Wilhelm von Bibra .

Life

Advancement in Spiritual Offices

After studying at the University of Ingolstadt , Albrecht took on his first offices until he was finally appointed canon in Würzburg. In several surviving letters, Pope Innocent VIII becomes visible as Albrecht's advocate. He also recommended him to the Bamberg bishop Philipp von Henneberg as canon. When the cathedral provost Lorenz von Bibra was elected as the new bishop, Albrecht was a member of the electoral cathedral chapter and accompanied the bishop during his recognition by Emperor Maximilian at the Diet of Nördlingen .

Possessions

Albrecht von Bibra had extensive fiefdoms in 1464 in the bishopric of Würzburg , in 1480 with Ritschenhausen from Bavaria-Landshut and in 1493 with property in 13 localities, including Bibra and Henneberg von Henneberg-Schleusingen, which gave it its name . According to Lorenz Fries' chronicle , Albrecht is said to have had a considerable fortune.

Tomb

Albrecht von Bibra was buried in the Würzburg Cathedral . His epitaph bears the coats of arms of Bibra, Fuchs , Modschiedler and Vestenberg .

According to Johann Octavian Salver, the inscription reads : An. dom. 1511 the solis vigesima quarta augusti obiit reverendus pater Albanus de Bibra, majoris et sancti Joannis novi monasterii herbip. ecclesiarum Praepositus, cujus anima requiescat in sncta pace. Amen.
