Sliver polygon (also sliver, small area or splinter polygon ) is a technical term from the field of geographic information systems .

Sliver polygons are incorrectly created residual areas that arise when different data levels are spatially intersected . Typically, Sliver polygons occur when intersecting differently digitized boundary lines . Sliver polygons are characterized by small, stretched areas.
