Snarl is a global notification system for Windows . Programs use Snarl to inform the user about important events. The user can fully configure the form of the notification. Software developers no longer have to design their own notification systems, they just pass the messages on to Snarl.

Snarl is a tool based on the basic idea of Growl , which is a widely used tool on the Macintosh . There, the user is also informed system-wide when a program requires the user's attention.

Applications compatible with Snarl send brief signals such as “Download complete” or the iTunes song being played , which is then displayed as a Snarl notification in the style selected by the user.

Snarl offers interfaces for developers that support a wide variety of programming languages. There are several different APIs for different purposes such as local applications or network services.
