SoapUI is a tool for software tests in the SOA area and is mainly used for testing web services. The basic version is subject to the GNU Lesser General Public License and is therefore free software . There is also a paid version (SoapUI pro), which includes a support contract and other functionalities.

The SoapUI project was initiated by the Swedish company Eviware Software. In July 2011, Eviware Software was purchased by SmartBear Software. The SoapUI project has been continued by SmartBear Software since then.

Range of functions

SoapUI covers the following range of functions:

  • Inspection and calling of web services
  • functional tests of web services
  • Load tests of web services
  • Creation of web service dummies ( mock services ) for the tests.

technology

SoapUI is based entirely on Java and uses the GUI Swing . It is therefore platform-independent. In addition to control via the GUI, tests can also be called via the command line and thus integrated into automated test processes.

history

SoapUI was first published in September 2005. SoapUI is one of the largest testing tools projects at Sourceforge. With around 2 million downloads, it's one of the most widely used testing tools.

From version 3.5 SoapUI also supports testing of Java Message Service (JMS), Action Message Format (AMF) and Java Database Connectivity (JDBC). So far only WSDL 1.1 is supported.

Alternatives

  • JMeter (can generate soap requests for load tests)
