Society of American Registered Architects

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Society of American Registered Architects (SARA) is a professional association for architects in the United States . The association, based in New York City , was founded on November 9, 1956 by Wilfred J. Gregson .

The association regularly awards internationally recognized honors and awards and maintains state and regional associations in several US states.

Membership primarily pursues mutual support within the profession. Any architect can become a member, regardless of the public significance of the individual. Architects from the American continent are listed as so-called “Professional Members”, other architects as “International Members”. Candidates for the professional license as an architect fall into the membership category of "Associate Members". Membership also exists for people, associations and companies from the construction industry as so-called "Affiliate Members". In contrast to the American Institute of Architects (AIA), SARA also offers the possibility of membership at the national level for architecture students as so-called “student members”.
