Society of Architectural Historians

The Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) is an international association of architectural historians with a focus on the USA .

The Society was founded on July 31, 1940 as the Society of American Architectural Historians and was based on the work of Kenneth John Conant at Harvard. 25 founding members elected Turpin Bannister as its first president and appointed him to publish a Journal of the American Society of Architectural Historians . Ten years later, the name of the association took its current form. The SAH is currently the largest relevant academic association in the USA with around 3500 members.

The association publishes a newsletter and the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians . It also awards numerous prizes. A comparable organization in Great Britain is the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain .
