Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners

The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) is the international, interdisciplinary association for practitioners who are active in the field of estate planning and settlement, investment, trust and foundation law and related tax issues.

STEP was founded in 1991 by George Tasker in England and is represented in more than 90 countries. It has over 20,000 members worldwide, mainly from the legal and tax advisory professions, auditing , from banks, insurance companies, corporate trusts and related professions.

The focus of the work of STEP is on the training and further education of the members and the general public.

Full members who have proven their qualifications through at least five years of professional experience in the succession, investment or trust area or through the completion of their own STEP diploma are allowed to use the abbreviation TEP for Trust and Estate Practitioner after their name.

The German section, STEP Germany , with more than 60 members, was founded in autumn 2006 in Frankfurt am Main and is organized in the legal form of an association based in Munich. The president of the board is Christian Hirschbiel (after Daniel Lehmann and Susanne Thonemann-Micker).
