history

The history of the college began in 1922 as the Kansai Technical College ( 関 西 工 学 専 修 学校 , Kansai kōgaku senshū gakkō ). The school body founded the Kansai Higher Technical School ( 関 西 高等 工業 学校 , Kansai kōtō kōgyō gakkō ) in 1940, which was renamed the Technical School Setsunan ( 摂 南 工業 専 門 学校 , Setsunan kōgyō semmon gakkō ; Setsunan denotes the south of the Settsu province ).

In April 1949 it developed into the Technical University of Setsunan ( 摂 南 工業 大学 , Setsunan kōgyō daigaku ) and then in October 1949 to the Technical University of Osaka with three departments (civil engineering, architecture and electrical engineering). In 1965 she founded the Graduate School and in 1967 she received the right to award doctorates. The college then created more faculties: Information Science (1996) and Intellectual Property (2003).

Now the educational body Jōshō-Gakuen ( 学校 法人 常 翔 学園 ) has three universities: Osaka Technical University, Setsunan University ( 摂 南 大学 , founded in 1975) and Hiroshima International University ( 広 島 国際 大学 , founded in 1998).
