Soda (restaurant)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Soda is the name for small restaurants in Costa Rica that are subsidized by the state and do not have an alcohol license. This means that prices can be kept at a low level.

Typical Costa Rican dishes such as Gallo Pinto are usually offered in a soda . There is an obligation to have certain main courses ( casados ), mostly dishes made from rice with beans ( arroz con frijoles ) with fried beef, chicken or fish and with fried plantains and salad. Sometimes the dishes in sodas are also offered as a buffet .

You can find sodas all over Costa Rica. They are mainly visited by the local population, but also by tourists.
