Soderini (family)
The Soderini refer to a family from the oligarchy of late medieval and early modern Florence .
history
Coming from the people ( popolo ) and not from the ranks of the old magnates, the top man was supposedly a Soderino Soderini who died in 1268 . In the town history of Giovanni Villani the family is enumerated with the year 1260 and with the departure of the Guelfi Popolan families after the battle of Montaperti . The Soderini were therefore resident in Oltrarno, in the Gonfalone Drago - and remained so in the following centuries.
The history of the Soderini deserves the most important note, however, with a view to the 15th and 16th centuries, as they were soon party members and now opponents of the Medici . Their role in the history of their hometown between 1494 and 1512 was comparatively broad and ongoing, when they defended the republic against the displaced Medici - and in turn were afflicted by the establishment of a tyranny by the Fama.
