Software Engineering Institute
The Software Engineering Institute ( SEI ) is a research and development center at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania .
It is largely funded by the US Department of Defense . This is one of the reasons why the focus is on complex, distributed, embedded and real-time capable systems that are subject to high requirements (reliability, availability, security, performance, maintainability, costs).
The SEI became known through the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI, formerly CMM ), the product line approach (SPL / PLA) and the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT).
