Solarization (agriculture)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In agriculture, one speaks of solarization as a method for influencing seeds or seedlings and their soil environment with solar energy. This is collected by special plastic film, which is laid over the floor areas to be treated, and fed to the floor. The temperature of the soil environment under the film increases due to the collection of solar energy to a value that is favorable for the development of the plant. This principle is similar to that of a greenhouse . There are thus pathogens pushed back and weeds. The method is therefore used particularly in organic agriculture and horticulture, where chemical control should be avoided.
