Somaliyaay toosoo (also Somaaliyey toosa , in German Somalia, awake ) was Somalia's national anthem between 2000 and 2012 .

Somaliyaay toosoo has been a popular folk song in Somalia since the 1940s. According to the Somali government, the song by Ali Mire Awale was written in 1947. However, another source indicates that it was created a few years earlier from his collaboration with Yusuf Haji Adari.

The song has been sung for a long time as a reminder of independence, especially by school classes at the start of lessons. From 2000, it finally officially replaced the textless and untitled anthem by Giuseppe Blanc (1886–1969), which had been in use since independence on July 1, 1960.

With the new constitution as the Federal Republic of Somalia, Somaliyaay toosoo was replaced by Qolobaa Calankeed as the new national anthem in August 2012 .
