Sonia Achkar

Sonia Achkar (* 1984 in Darmstadt ) is a German pianist and university teacher for piano and piano chamber music.

Life

Sonia Achkar was born in Darmstadt in 1984 and grew up in the Palatinate , where she graduated from high school in Kusel in 2003 . She began taking piano lessons at the age of five and was taught by Rudolf Meister from the age of 13 , in whose class she then studied at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts . Further studies took her to the renowned Jacobs School of Music ( Indiana University ) in Bloomington in the USA , where she completed a degree with Menahem Pressler , which was made possible by a Rotary scholarship. After several awards at the music competition " Jugend musiziert ", she was a. a. first prizewinner ("Premio Anguissola-Scotti") at the International Val Tidone Music Competition. The multiple participation in the " Federal Selection Concerts of Young Artists " of the German Music Council marked the beginning of her busy concert activity. Since then she has been heard at many international festivals and concert series. In 2014 she started teaching at the Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theater in Leipzig and has also been leading her own piano class at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts since 2015 .
