Sophie was a Belgian comic strip series originally written by Vicq and co-written and drawn by Jidéhem . The series follows the adventures of a young girl and was pre-released in Spirou between 1964 and 1994 . The series was the first comic series in Spirou with a female main character.

history

Sophie was originally a supporting character in Jidéhem's Starter, a column dedicated to automobiles in Spirou. Starter showed the adventures of a young mechanic and his young companion named Sophie. When readers became more interested in Sophie than Starter, she got her own series.

Characters

Sophie Karamazout

Sophie Karamazout is a sweet and pretty little girl who was created by her father, Mr. Karamazout, with the ingredients "sugar, spices and everything that is beautiful". She lived with her father and butler in a huge mansion in a quiet area outside of town. She always wears her long hair in two tails that are held together by a bow. Sophie is a girl who has the elegance and beauty of a young woman. Like most girls and women, she has a large wardrobe with very feminine clothes. In contrast to many comic characters, Sophie doesn't have a fixed outfit. As the daughter of an electrical engineer, she is not only intelligent, but also very charming. She often uses her feminine charm to convince men of their rights or to be able to get their way. However, she never does it out of self-interest. Sophie hates injustice and always wants to help others. She also does not like violence and encourages others to find non-violent solutions.

Mr. Karamazout

Mr Karamazout is Sophie's father and an electrical engineer by profession. He has blonde hair and wears glasses. They live with his daughter and her butler Joseph in a villa in a quiet area outside the city. In this quiet place he can get involved in new inventions, which are often commissioned by a large company. His most famous inventions are: the egg, the bell of silence and the ray KA. These inventions are often the target of greedy bandits. Sometimes he is so absorbed in his work that he does not notice that his daughter is going on an adventure again. He likes to smoke a pipe. His first name is not mentioned.

Joseph

Joseph is the butler for the Karamazout family. He cooks, looks after the house and acts as a taxi driver.

starter

Starter has dark hair and usually wears a light blue shirt, light blue pants, and white shoes. He is a mechanic by profession. He works for Spirou as a test driver for cars because of his excellent driving skills.

pipette

Pipette is Starter's best friend, whom he lives with. He works as a test driver for Spirou, but with two-wheeled vehicles. In terms of temperament, Pipette is the opposite of Starter. If Starter is rather calm and thoughtful, Pipette is impetuous and clumsy. It's quite excitable, especially when people (especially Sophie) make fun of him. Even so, he is always ready to help those in need. He is a friendly man who likes to eat well and have a drink. Pipette usually wears a green shirt and brown pants. Sophie sometimes affectionately calls him "Uncle Pipette". Just like with Starter, his last name is not mentioned.

Bernard

Bernard is Sophie's best friend and a year or two younger than her. It mostly appears in Sophie's shorter adventures. She is often scared and turns to Sophie for help. Bernard can scream very loudly and is often compared to a mermaid. Bernard is called Harrietje in some earlier stories.

Zoé

Zoe is a dark, intelligent car with a will of its own. Its builder, Mr. Buis, gave it an electronic brain. Zoé has a gasoline engine, but could also run on other fuels. If he does not get "Super" petrol, he is an appropriate expression of his dissatisfaction. After Mr Buis' death, Zoé becomes the property of Pieters. Zoe is inspired by the Herbie VW Beetle .
