Sophism of the veiled
One of the paradoxes of Eubulides is called sophism of the veiled (lat.velatus) :
- Do you recognize this veiled one? No! It is your father! It follows from this: You do not recognize your father.
This fallacy (sophism) is based on an unclear use of the word recognize. The difficulty arises because the veiled person is known to the persons concerned from earlier, but is not immediately recognized.
The sophisms of the hidden and of Elektra, which also come from Eubulides, are similar.
