Precoma

ICD-10 online (WHO version 2019)

As stupor ( latin stupor , deep sleep ' ) or torpor ( latin torpor , solidification' , anesthetic ') refers to a form of quantitative disturbance of consciousness , wherein the patient is in a sleep-like state in which only by strong stimuli (e.g. . B. pain stimuli ) reactions (eg. B. defensive movements) can be triggered. A full awakening of the patient is usually no longer possible. The reflexes are preserved, the muscle tone is reduced.

This quantitative change in consciousness is only exceeded by the coma , which is why it is also referred to as a precoma . The preliminary stage of Sopor, on the other hand, is called somnolence .
