Soundcheck (book)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Soundcheck: the 101 most important records in pop history is a book by Karl Bruckmaier , the first edition of which was published in 1999. The author tries to put together a sample case or canon of important pop music albums .

The plates presented in the book are a subjective selection of plates by Bruckmaier. With the "Top 100 of the German Rolling Stone editorial team" (1997), which he called a flawless list (p. 12) and included as an appendix (see p. 161), his own list shows only five overlaps ( Exile on Main St. , Beggars Banquet , Let It Bleed , Blue and Desire ). Bruckmaier's book is not a compendium of generally recognized and objective merits and achievements (p. 13), but contains a number of recommendations. The sample case is intended to contain a selection of most styles of popular music.
