Ballantrae Bridge basement
The basement of Ballantrae Bridge in Ballantrae in South Ayrshire in Scotland was discovered in 1995 from oblique aerial photography . The characteristic features of a basement , possible enclosures and other features are in the middle of a field, about 350 m south of the old Ballantrae Bridge over the Stinchar .
The basement is about 12.0 m long. A possibly round enclosure with a diameter of about 12.0 m is located about 70 m southwest of the basement. Two possibly square housings can be seen about 100 m northwest of the basement. A large number of other crop marks are in the immediate vicinity.
In the case of basements, a distinction is usually made between “earth-cut”, “rock-cut”, “mixed”, “stone built” and “wooden” basements. However, since no excavation has yet taken place, no statement can be made about it.
Nearby is the Garphar basement .
