Rinsing (cooking)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wash potatoes (before peeling) under gently running water to remove loosely adhering soil residues etc.

As rinsing or washing refers to a preparation method in the production of food.

When washing, dirt and foreign matter are separated from food by moving water . The aim is careful preparation, otherwise a reduction in quality through leaching and softening of the products is possible.

The quality improvement in the production of fruit and vegetables means that the typical rinsing, which was necessary in the past to remove soil, dirt and stored materials, is no longer necessary. Nowadays it is mainly used for fruits that are eaten with their skin and outer shell. Otherwise the foreign matter will be removed during peeling .
