Chip breaker
The chip breaker (also Spanleitplatte ) is a directly behind the cutting edge incorporated stage and serves resulting clamping guide. They break and guide the chip into a cheaper form, since long chips pose a risk to people, tools, workpiece and machine and make removal more difficult.
With many cutting ceramics , a chip guide plate is clamped between the cutting plate and the clamping claw, as a wide range of special cutting plates can be dispensed with.
On roughing cutters or milled files , the cutting edge is given a profile with chip breakers , which breaks the chips and, depending on the type, is also called chip breaker or chip breaker grooves for files. The profile typical for roughing cutters is called a cord toothing and for roughing / finishing cutters it is called a flat profile.
