Spastic Ink is an American progressive metal band and is often referred to as a math rock band.

history

In 1993, Watchtower guitarist Ron Jarzombek founded Spastic Ink. His brother Bobby Jarzombek and Pete Perez (then both members of Riot ) finally completed the line-up.

On their first album, Ink Complete, from 1997, the band played purely instrumental math rock , a subtype of progressive metal that is characterized by complex time signatures and changes, dissonant melodies and high speed. The song A Wild Hare follows the story from Disney's Bambi and accompanies it musically. The voices that are imitated by the guitar are striking. Added 25 minutes of bonus material to the 2000 re-release.

On the second album Ink Compatible from 2004 many guest musicians can be heard. Guest musicians include bassists Michael Manring ( Michael Hedges , Attention Deficit), Sean Malone (Gordian Knot, Cynic ), Ray Riendeau ( Halford , Machines Of Loving Grace) and Doug Keyser (Watchtower), drummers Jeff Eber ( Dysrhythmia ) and Dave Penna ( Static , Planet Hate), the keyboardists Jens Johansson ( Stratovarius , Yngwie Malmsteen ), David Bagsby ( Xen , Patrick Moraz ) and Jimmy Pitts (Scholomance, The Fractured Dimension) as well as the singers Daniel Gildenlow ( Pain of Salvation ) and Jason McMaster (Watchtower). Due to the large number of guest musicians, there was a slight change in style, so that the songs are no longer exclusively instrumental pieces.
