Spat (equine disease)

Spat is a collective term for arthritic diseases of the horse's ankle .

This includes acute inflammation of the joints, bones and possibly also periosteum of the ankle joint as well as damage to the joint surfaces and bone remodeling caused by chronic inflammation. In the chronic form, spar can stiffen the ankle.
