The Speleological Union of Ireland (SUI, Irish Cumann Uaimheadóireachta na hÉireann ) has been the official organization of cave explorers in Ireland since 1964 who are active in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland .

history

Since 1985, SUI has formed the SUICRO Association together with the Irish Cave Rescue Organization. SUICRO has organized a symposium every year since it was founded and also grants subsidies for international cave expeditions. In August 2009, two Irish cave explorers were actively involved in Voronya Cave , the deepest known cave in the world.

Publications

The SUI publishes a scientific journal called Irish Speleology. The SUI journal appears annually in twelve to eighteen issues and is a high quality glossy A4 magazine. The newsletter editions are published quarterly in A5 format.

Trivia

In August 2012, the Kozłowski Foundation was founded, which also supports caving in Ireland. The foundation was established in memory of cave diver and explorer Artur Kozłowski, who died on September 5, 2011 at the age of 33 while exploring a cave while diving when part of the cave collapsed. His body could only be recovered on September 10, 2011 from a depth of 52 meters from the approximately 800-meter-long water-bearing cave passage after extensive ground clearing.
