Locking seat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blocking seat , also known as pocket money box , is the name given to a category of seating in a theater , cinema or other event room. Seats in this category are located between those in the stalls and the box seats .

The seat takes its name from the former locking possibility of the seats. The seat of the wooden chair could be folded up against the backrest and locked there with a simple lock. So whoever bought a restricted area received the right key for the seat for a certain period of time. This key then also served as an entrance ticket. In the historic city theater of Grein (built in 1791) original locking seats with keys are still preserved.
