Hollow spear

Two hollow spears of different sizes.

A hollow spike or splicing nail is an iron spike made of sheet steel in the form of a tapered groove with a (wooden) knob at the thicker end. It is a tool of the Taklers and serves as the marlinspike as Splicing (twisted) for beaten rope . He is between the individual strands stuck, so another Kardeel can be inserted through the resulting opening. Due to the hollow shape, the cardel can be placed in the hollow spike and easily pulled through the rope together with the hollow spike. This makes splicing much easier.
