Sports boat certificate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The sport boat certificate is an internal boat driving license of the German Motor Yacht Association (DMYV) and the Association of German Sport Boat Schools (VDS) without any official (legal) significance.

background

Until 2012, sport boats with an engine output of up to 5 HP were allowed to be driven on inland and sea waterways without a license in Germany . In 2012 this limit was increased to 15 hp. With this change, the DMYV and the VDS introduced the pleasure craft certificate, which confirms participation in training on driving license-free pleasure craft without an examination. The pleasure boat certificate thus only proves participation in an internal training course and is not legally required for the operation of the aforementioned pleasure craft. Since there is also no examination, the certificate is not suitable as evidence of a level of knowledge.

education

The training for the sport boat certificate takes place according to the guidelines of the DMYV and the VDS. Only VDS-licensed instructors are allowed to train for the sports boat certificate.

The training is divided into two parts.

Theoretical training:

  • Traffic regulations
  • Meteorology
  • environmental Protection

Practical training:

  • Seamanship (ropes / knots, propulsion and boat technology)
  • Maneuver

An exam does not take place.

Advantages of the pleasure craft certificate for pleasure craft schools

The introduction of the pleasure craft certificate brings the pleasure craft schools some advantages. In contrast to the sport boat license, the candidate does not have to register for an examination with an official examination board weeks in advance. Therefore, those interested in the sport boat certificate can attend a course relatively spontaneously. Above all, this brings economic advantages to sport boat schools in holiday resorts.
