Origin / history

After the Israeli Olympic delegation was taken hostage in Munich in 1972 and its tragic end, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) determined that pastoral support was needed at the Olympic Games. International Sports Chaplains from different denominational backgrounds are available to them.

Area of ​​responsibility

A sports pastor or sports pastor takes care of the personal concerns of the athletes and coaches. He also leads athletes' church services, visits the sick and cares for the soul of the athletes and coaches in one-to-one conversations.
