Spot vegetation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Spot Vegetation is a multinational remote sensing program based on the Spot satellites .

The program is operated by the Flemish Institute of Technology and, like the Spot satellite program, is a joint project between Belgium , France , Italy , Sweden and the European Commission .

The program allows a daily recording of the vegetation on regional and global level. The system in orbit and the corresponding evaluation and storage systems on the ground have been in operation since April 1998. The first unit of Spot Vegetation ( VEGETATION 1 ) was installed as part of the SPOT 4 satellite, a second unit ( VEGETATION 2 ) is on board SPOT 5 .

Applications

Remote sensing data with a spatial resolution of up to 1 km is freely available to end users through spot vegetation . The data goes online almost in real time . The aim is to provide decision-makers with valid data for resource management , environmental monitoring and direct policy .
