Språkförsvaret

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Språkförsvaret (literally: defense of the language) is a politically independent network formed in 2005 to strengthen the Swedish language and recognizes the importance of English as a foreign language , but believes that its current position as a world language is the long-term survival of other languages , including the Swedish, threatened. Språkförsvaret regards multilingualism as a value in itself. In the opinion of the association, the Swedish language in Sweden needs an active and fundamentally different defense than before. In particular, EU membership and increasing internationalization are a challenge, according to the association.

Språkförsvaret drafted its own proposal for a Swedish language law as well as a number of other documents, including a. about the language policy of the Swedish universities and the Nordic language community. The network was also one of the bodies responsible for assessing the new language law. Corresponding documents are listed in the anthology Svenskan - ett språk att äga, älska och ärva (“Swedish - possessing, loving, inheriting”, ed. Per-Åke Lindblom and Arne Rubensson, Stockholm 2011).

Språkförsvaret continuously initiates debates and seminars. Members get involved in the daily and specialist press for the use of good Swedish and geisseln svengelska ("Schwenglisch").

The books published by Språkförsvaret receive above-average reviews and are part of the language debate in Sweden and the Swedish-speaking part of Finland. The polemic Såld på engelska? (“Sold in English?”, Red. Per-Åke Lindblom, Frank-Michael Kirsch and Arne Rubensson, Stockholm 2013) analyzes why goods and services sell best with Swedish in Sweden, German in Germany and Dutch in the Netherlands - and not with English. In Språkförsvaret's latest book, Guld i strupen? ("Gold in the throat?", Ed. Frank-Michael Kirsch, Per-Åke Lindblom and Arne Rubensson, Stockholm 2014) writers, translators, scientists and publishers write about their personal relationship with Swedish. Since the Swedish Language Act came into force on July 1, 2009, Språkförsvaret has been committed to using it in as many areas of society as possible. With this in mind, possible applications of the new law are being explored by means of a series of appeals to the ombudsman of the Reichstag. Among other things, Språkförsvaret challenged the legality of English government e-mail addresses and received rights from the ombudsman.

Språkförsvaret has been a partner organization of the German Language Association since 2013 .
