Language daycare centers
The federal program “ Language daycare centers : because language is the key to the world” of the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) has been following the previous program “ Early Opportunities : Focus Daycare Centers Language & Integration” since January 2016 .
The “Early Opportunities” program (2011–2015), also an initiative of the BMFSFJ, aimed to create educational offers in day-care centers that primarily teach children from socially disadvantaged families and families with a migration background language skills.
The focus of the new federal program “Language Daycare Centers” (2016–2020) is day-to-day language education in day-care centers, inclusive pedagogy and cooperation with families.

The subsidized day-care centers are provided with additional specialists. The children are to be supported in their language development early on through language education integrated into everyday life.
The “Early Opportunities” program was carried out in two waves from March 2011 to December 2014. In this context, the federal government made around 400 million euros available, which will be distributed to around 4,000 institutions. These were mostly daycare centers that were attended more than average by children with a migration background and / or from socially disadvantaged families.
The “Language Daycare Centers” program will also be carried out in two waves: January 2016 to December 2019 and, with a temporal overlap, January 2017 to December 2020. Around 3,400 day-care centers are being funded (as of September 30, 2016). Subsidies for additional half specialist centers or half specialist counseling centers as well as measures to support the respective day-care center are intended to improve the language education offers and the quality of day-care. Initially, the federal government is making around 400 million euros available for the first wave of funding. Funding through the federal program “Language Daycare Centers” is also open to day-care centers that did not take part in the previous program.

Language acquisition is considered the key to integration into social life and into later professional life. Children from socially disadvantaged families should be given education and language skills through these programs .
