Freedom of language

In Switzerland, freedom of language refers to the basic right guaranteed by the Federal Constitution (BV) that everyone can freely choose which language they want to speak.

Article 18 of the Federal Constitution states:

Freedom of language is guaranteed. "

Nobody can be forced to “ drop ” one language or use another. Specifically, it means that no person may be excluded from the rights to which they are entitled because of the language with which they communicate. This also includes sign language .
