Language learning center

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A language learning center is an institution at universities and colleges which, unlike the language center, not only offers language courses and language tests, but also conducts language research and language didactics itself.

Pilot project at the University of Bonn

The "Language Learning Center of the University of Bonn" founded in 1977 by Heinrich P. Kelz covers tasks in the field of language research and teaching such as:

  • Aspects of learning and teaching foreign languages.
  • Creation, testing and adaptation of language learning materials and textbooks, the development of curricula and teaching models.
  • Implementation of Bachelor courses in German as a second and foreign language and communication studies.
  • Carrying out exams to acquire language certificates.
  • Implementation of the advanced training course for teachers in German as a second and foreign language as well as for foreign language teachers in adult education.

The Bonn language learning center became a model for other centers at home and abroad. Language learning centers were set up in conjunction with the Goethe Institute and other German cultural institutions at universities in Russia, Ukraine, the Caucasus, Central Asia and China.
