Heinrich P. Kelz

Heinrich Peter Kelz (born November 7, 1940 in Beuel ) was Professor of Phonetics , former Director of the Language Center at the University of Bonn , specialist in language teaching research, applied linguistics and foreign language didactics.

Kelz received his doctorate in 1969 with a dissertation on the subject: "Phonological Analysis of the Pennsylvania German ", which appeared in 1969 and the second edition in 1971. In 1973 he completed his habilitation with the text: "Phonetic Problems in Foreign Language Teaching" (published 1976). Teaching

From 1974 to 2008 he was a professor at the University of Bonn. His teaching and research focus are communication, phonetics and phonology of German, German as a foreign language, technical language, business German, language learning research, applied linguistics and language policy.

Founder of the language learning center

In 1977 Professor Kelz founded the Language Learning Center at the University of Bonn, of which he has been head ever since. In the following years he expanded the center and promoted the establishment of further centers in Germany and abroad with a focus on Russia and Central Asia.

research

Kelz has published numerous papers on spoken language communication, phonology, applied phonetics and pronunciation training as well as German teaching, especially for Asians. In the context of language policy, he dealt with the importance of German in Europe, the preservation of European small languages, as well as language policy and language planning. Among its numerous editions, the book series Languages ​​and Language Learning should be highlighted with monographs and anthologies on language learning research as well as lexicons and textbooks for English, French, Spanish, Danish, Chinese, Thai, Tagali and German as a foreign language.
