The Spvg Remscheid 07 (officially: 1. Spielvereinigung 07 Remscheid eV ) is a sports club from Remscheid . The first soccer team played for a year in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.
history
The club was founded in 1907 and played in the second division in the 1920s. After the war ended , the team was one of the founding members of the then first-class Berg / Mark district league , from which they promptly relegated. In 1954 it went down to the county class, where the immediate promotion succeeded. In 1957 the Remscheid team made it to the regional league , but had to go back to the district class after a year.
In 1961 he was promoted to the national league again. Two years later the relegation only succeeded after a play-off marathon. Four teams were tied and had to determine three relegated teams. After the first round of the playoff , Viktoria Düsseldorf was relegated, while the other three teams were tied. A new round was set in which VfR Wipperfürth was determined as a relegated team. The decision was only made after Remscheid's 2-0 victory over SV Wermelskirchen on August 25, 1963.
The team was able to establish itself in the national league in the following years and was sixth in 1964 and 1970. Then in 1971 it went down to the district class, where the direct rise again succeeded. In 1975 it went back down to the district class. The Remscheid team gave their last regional league guest game in the 1996/97 season, before the Remscheid team said goodbye to the regional league A in 2004 after several years in the regional league, where the team still plays today.
