Municipal bathing establishment

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The terms Kommunale Badeanstalt or Städtische Badeanstalt or Stadtbad denote a swimming pool that is usually owned by the respective municipality or city and is therefore neither operated by citizens as a public swimming pool nor owned by a swimming club .

Due to the financial constraints of numerous municipalities , some of these bathing establishments have become the sponsorship of support associations. Due to their more functional equipment without so-called adventure areas , municipal bathing establishments usually differ from the increasingly popular fun pools. City pools can be both indoor and outdoor .

history

At the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century, numerous places built a municipal swimming pool, which was intended to serve both public hygiene (with bathtubs and showers) and physical exercise. Last but not least, the bathing establishments also made school swimming lessons possible .

Another aspect for the construction of city baths was to increase the public's image of the community, as at that time it was a status symbol for the prosperity of the place.
