The Städtische Galerie Böblingen is the art museum of the city of Böblingen .

It has been part of the building ensemble since 1987, consisting of the medieval-looking, renovated Zehntscheuer and a postmodern glass and steel new building together with the Dt. Peasant War Museum housed. In its permanent presentation, the gallery concentrates on key works by Southwest German artist groups in the first third of the 20th century, i. H. on paintings, graphics, objects and sculptures by progressive-minded artists who organized themselves in avant-garde exhibitor associations. The conditions under which art was created, cultivated and further developed in the face of the last century, which was shaken by two world wars and moved between awakening and apocalypse, deserve special attention, taking into account the so-called “lost generation”. Another focus of the gallery's collection concerns the multifaceted work of the painter Fritz Steisslinger , who moved to the Böblinger Tannenberg in the 1920s . Regular special exhibitions on cultural-historical and socio-political topics in relation to the art of classical modernism and in dialogue with current contemporary art round off the permanent exhibition. In addition to the municipal gallery, there was galerie contact in Böblingen until 2013 as a meeting and exhibition space for the regional and national art and culture scene. Since 2014/15, the “KunstRauschRaum” or the “KunstStadtRaum” have been used temporarily for space-related, experimental and oversized installation art in abandoned shopping centers or in shops that are about to be renovated. In addition to managing the municipal art collection, the Böblingen Municipal Gallery is also responsible for “art in public spaces”.
