Permanent Conference of Ukrainian Orthodox Bishops outside Ukraine
The Standing Conference of Ukrainian Orthodox Bishops outside Ukraine is the coordinating body for the activities of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox structures in the diaspora, all of which are the responsibility of the Ecumenical Patriarchate . The conference regularly sends messages to Ukrainian Orthodox emigrants, is committed to helping Ukraine abroad and supporting the needs of Ukrainians in the Ecumenical Patriarchate, particularly playing an important role in providing autocephaly for the Orthodox Church of Ukraine .
history
Since the 19th century, the first Orthodox church congregations of Ukrainian emigrants emerged in the USA and Europe.
In 1947 the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church was founded in Germany and other countries after the church was banned in the Soviet Union. From 1995 to 1998 the foreign eparchies separated from the Ukrainian Autocephalous Church and submitted to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
