Support clasp

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A support lock is a plosive that is inserted into a sound sequence to facilitate pronunciation and is not etymologically motivated.

Examples

An example of an etymologically motivated case - and thus to be distinguished from a support lock - is:

  • nhd. comb vs. Bavarian Kam p (e) l (m.) - cf. mhd. kamp , engl. comb
