Saint-Sulpice is a Romanesque church from the 12th century and has been a monument historique since 1923 . It is located in the small western French municipality of Montils in the Charente-Maritime department .

history

Like many other churches from the 12th century, it has seen various changes over the centuries. The bell tower dates from the 15th and the main facade was rebuilt in the 16th century.

Furnishing

The special thing about the facade is the lack of horizontal crossings by cornices or bands.

The nave is originally Romanesque, but it is easy to see that it has received a pointed arched vault made of lightweight material that partially hides its original appearance as it rests on the original half-columns and capitals.
