The St. George's Church (Czech svatého Jiří kostel , also Church of Lost Souls ) is a Roman Catholic church building in Luková in western Bohemia . There are sculptures inside.

history

The oldest mention of a pastor in German-speaking Luk is from 1352, at this time a church must have existed. In 1797 the building burned down and was rebuilt from 1800 in the neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque style.

In 1968 the roof collapsed. Since that time there have been no more masses in the church, the building slowly fell into disrepair. In 2012, the then design student Jakub Hadrava began with an installation of sitting and standing figures, which he made as plaster casts of fellow students. These were intended to remember the former German residents of the place until 1945.

The roof and ceiling of the donations made by numerous national and international visitors have now been replaced, which somewhat diminished the building's morbid charm .

The 32 ghost-like sculptures are now a popular tourist destination in western Bohemia.
