St. Paul Cathedral in Calcutta

The St. Paulus Cathedral ( German  for St. Paul's Cathedral ) is an Anglican church of the Church of North India in Calcutta .

The foundation stone was laid in 1839. St. Paul's Cathedral was completed in 1847. The cathedral's architects were William Nairn Forbes and CK Robinson. The building was built in the neo-Gothic style.

The iron girder roof with dimensions of 75 by 24 meters was the longest of its kind in the world at that time. For better ventilation, the pointed arch windows extend to the skirting board level and large fans hang on the ceilings.

Among many well-preserved memorabilia and memorial plaques to deceased representatives of the Empire , the stained glass window that Sir Edward Burne-Jones (1833–1898) designed in 1880 in honor of the British Governor General Lord Mayo (1822–1872) stands out. The original steeple was destroyed by an earthquake in 1897, and after another earthquake in 1934 it was remodeled to the Bell Harry Tower of Canterbury Cathedral.
