St. Philip Church

The Evangelical Lutheran St. Philippus Church in Hanover-Isernhagen-Süd is the church of the Isernhagen-Süd parish , which was founded in 1954.

history

The foundation stone for the church was laid on November 6th, 1960, followed by the consecration and use by the then regional bishop Hanns Lilje on March 11th, 1963 . The design of the church building, which is sparingly and clearly structured in terms of architecture, comes from the architect and town planner Hanns Bettex with the assistance of the architect Müller-Krumwiede. Before 1960 a makeshift church had been set up for the community. The church is reliably open.

art

The copper-driven double door by the sculptor Peter Greve shows on the right side a representation of the feeding of the five thousand, with Christ, bread and fish; the left side shows Philip, Nathanael and other Greeks who came to believe through Philip. In the church vestibule on the left side there are four stained glass windows by the artist Heinz Bohatschek , which have images of famous words from the Gospel of John on the subject: I am the way (Joh. 14,6) - I am the door (Joh. 10,7) - I am the light (Joh. 8,12) - I am the right vine (Joh. 15,5).

Furthermore, a glass picture with Jesus, Maria and Martha can be seen, which was created in the Gustav van Treeck glass workshop in Munich before 1900 and which used to adorn the east wall of an Upper Bavarian cemetery chapel. The font carved in shell limestone comes from Ingeborg Steinohrt.

altar

The simple altar is made of sandstone. A triumphal cross of the artist couple Resl Schröder-Lechner (born 1910) and Heinrich Schröder (born 1913) from Gohfeld near Löhne hovers above the altar. On the altar is a meditation cross and a hanging Son of God by Resl Schröder-Lechner.

local community

After the makeshift church was built, a kindergarten was built in 1957. This was followed by the construction of a rectory and finally the parish hall in 1972. The land on which the parish hall and rectory are located was sold in 2006. After a new parish hall was built in 2007, the old parish hall and rectory were demolished in 2008. The new parish hall planned by the architects Eckard and Johannes Rechenbach is a transparent, inviting building designed for a wide variety of events. The community hall can be divided and is provided with a circumferential glass strip of light. The hall is situated higher than the rest of the building and dominates the office and ancillary rooms grouped around the hall.
