St. Gereon and St. Christoph parish church 1571

St. Christoph was the Catholic parish and parish church belonging to the St. Gereon monastery in Cologne . It was first mentioned in 1172 and demolished in 1806. The church was about 15 m from the north tower of the Abbey Choir of St. Gereon.

The first building emerged from a chapel dedicated to St. Christopher . Around 1190 it was elevated to a parish church.

In 1219 a newly built parish church was consecrated, which was later extended to the south by a transept. In the course of secularization , when the Cologne monasteries were abolished under French occupation, St. Gereon took over the function of the parish church.

St. Christoph was closed in 1803 and sold at auction. In 1806 the church building and in 1837 the surrounding walls with the sexton building were laid down.

Later, the new Christophstraße was run over the former church grounds.
