St. Kosmas and Damian is the Roman Catholic parish church in Pulheim ( Rhein-Erft-Kreis ) in North Rhine-Westphalia . The core of the church goes back to a Franconian hall church.

history

The Pulheim parish church probably emerged from an own church of the Pulheim Fronhof . The Fronhof was after the Frankish period owned by the Cologne Cecilia pen and was in 1067 by the Cologne Archbishop Anno II. The monastery of St. George paid. Construction investigations have proven the existence of a hall church around the year 1000, which is still preserved in the current nave of the Romanesque church. In the north wall of the central nave there are four walled up small round arched window openings, which are located below the larger Romanesque windows that are still preserved today. In the east gable there is a walled-in round window above the arch to the former choir of the hall church.

The pre-Romanesque hall church was raised by three meters in the 12th century and four arched windows were installed on both sides in the upper aisle. The large west tower also dates from this time. The side aisles were added at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries, and the richly structured fourth tower floor may also date from this period. The church was vaulted in the 16th century. In 1885 a massive neo-Romanesque extension with transept and choir was added to the Romanesque nave, and the aisles were also renewed. In 1970 the extension was put down and replaced by a simple, modern building.
