St Peter's Church (Gullane)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The St Peter's Church is a former church building in the Scottish village of Gullane in the Council Area East Lothian . The building has meanwhile been profaned and rebuilt. In 1971 the associated community hall was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest category A.

history

The church was built during the 19th century. In 1908 a community hall was added on the south side. The plans were provided by the Scottish architect Sydney Mitchell , who himself donated a larger amount for the construction and did not charge for his work. The Edinburgh architects Dick Peddie, McKay & Jamieson were commissioned with a revision in 1947 . In 1990 an application was made to convert the church into living space, which was granted. The result was St Peter's House , which can be rented as a holiday home.

Community Hall

The building is on Main Street ( A198 ), the main thoroughfare of Gullane, in the southwest of the village. The parish hall rises beyond the elongated former church and towers over it. It is a massive looking, compact tower made of reddish sandstone . On the north side is the entrance door framed in relief and concluding with a curved lintel . Furthermore, a triple pointed arch window is installed there. Further triplet windows with pressed pointed arches can be found on the south and west facades. The east side, however, is designed with three arched windows. The building closes with a slate-covered pyramid roof .
