The State Jacob Gogebashwili University Telavi ( Ossetian თელავის სახელმწიფო უნივერსიტეტი ) is a 1999 university founded in Telavi in the in the Georgian region of Kakheti .

The university is one of the oldest universities in Georgia and has its predecessors in the Iqalto Monastery (12th century), Philosophical-Theological School in Telavi (1758–1782), Theological Seminary (1782–1801), Theological School (1818–1918) ), Teachers 'College (1924–1939), Teachers' Institute (1939–1951) and the Pedagogical Institute (1951–1999). In 1999 the college was officially recognized as a university.

The university was named after Jacob Gogebashvili in 1940 .
