The national plan code number is the essential code number that was used for the elaboration, implementation, accounting and control of the national economic plan in the GDR . State planning indicators were balanced requirements of the state on the performance and effectiveness development of the areas, branches, territories, combines, companies and institutions for the implementation of the requirements of the economic strategy.

On behalf of the GDR Council of Ministers, they were given by the state planning commission and / or the Ministry of Finance to the ministries and other central state organs and the district councils.
